WSET Level 1 Award in Wines Online
Each course has a set start and finish date, with clear guidelines on progression, however there are no fixed times to log-on as there is no "live" delivery of content. Students can complete their learning at times that suit them. Students will learn through a range of independent and/or group activities supported by videos and quizzes, designed to achieve the required learning outcomes to prepare for the examination. Throughout the course, students will have access to a subject-specialist educator who’ll provide feedback on any assigned exercises and respond to course-related queries.
This WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, a four-week wine course designed to give you a taste of the wonderful world of wine!
The world of wine can be very daunting. How do you know what the differences are between wines, and what information can be used to help you to identify these differences?
This course is designed to offer some simple answers to these questions. You will be introduced to the main styles of wine, principal grape varieties and other examples of wines. This will enable you to read many wine labels and know what to expect from the wine inside the bottle. You will also cover wine service as well as the theory of pairing wine and food: you will discover that some simple rules make this subject easy to understand.
Once you have completed the online study, you MUST complete the 45 min exam at one of our face-to-face classes at Media One Hotel, Media City, Dubai on the following dates:

September: 1st - 28th (4 weeks) Exam will be 26 October 2025 in person 4.30pm to 6pm.
October: 13th - 9th November (4 weeks) Exam will be 23 November 2025 in person 4.30pm to 6pm.
December: 8th - 4th January (4 weeks) Exam date will be 25 January 2026 in person 4.30pm to 6pm.
Dates for 2026 will be released in October 2025.
What to Expect?
This short course consists of five modules which cover topics from wine ingredients and production methods, to how to taste wine, to different types of wine. Each module is designed to be interactive, so expect to post in discussion forums, watch videos, complete quizzes and reflect on tasks. Completing all the modules should take you six hours, excluding time for exam revision. You can work through the course at your own pace over the next four weeks.
For best performance, WSET's Online Classroom should be used on the current or previous major releases of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Because Instructure products are built using web standards, WSET's Online Classroom runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser.
Your Online Educator
Your educator will be there to guide you through your learning. They will give feedback and guidance on your tasks and tasting notes. You are also welcome to contact them directly via the course 'Chat' or 'Inbox' at any point during the course. After this four week course finishes, your educator will no longer be available to assist you.

What is Wine & How is it Made?
Name the main parts of a grape and what they contain.
Name the key stages in the annual cycle of grape growing and know what happens during ripening.
Name and define different grape-growing climates and state how they can affect the characteristics of grapes. List the requirements for and the products of alcoholic fermentation.
Name and correctly order the key stages in the production of still white, red and rosé wines.
Types & Styles of Wine
Identify the three main styles of wine: still wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines.
Study the notable structural characteristics of all wines.
Grape Varieties & Wines
Name the principal grape varieties and identify the characteristics and styles of their wines.
Identify and relate named wines from principal grape varieties to the grape varieties, types, characteristics and styles of wine.
Identify and relate other popular named wines to the types, characteristics and styles of wine.
Storage & Service of Wines
Identify and define the ideal conditions for the short and long-term storage of wine.
State the recommended service temperature for the principal types and styles of wine.
State the correct procedures for opening and serving wine.

Exam
Important: Although the course is online, you MUST complete the exam in person in the UAE. We hold WSET Level 1 Award in Wine classes in person each month at Media One Hotel, Media City, Dubai. You will be required to attend from 4.30pm to 6pm for the exam only portion.
You have 45 minutes to complete the exam which comprises 30 multi-choice questions and a pass mark of 70%.
Below are the results you can attend and the marks required.
Pass: 70% and above
Fail: 69% and below
Results are normally known up to 4-6 weeks later. WSET inform us and yourself by email. The certificate for successful candidates will be available digitally as soon as you receive your results and the lapel pin will be delivered to you within 2-3 days.
If you are unsuccessful, you are able to retake the exam without having to retake the course if you do not wish to. The cost to resit the exam is currently AED 450. Please contact us prior to booking.
